Sequence of Project Steps Is Important

Sequence Is Important

I ventured into decorating booties, and discovered the importance of sequence.

In the following pair of reversible booties, I messed up a couple of times.

I was trying to add the red and white gingham strip, and at first I stitched it to the seam "before" sewing on the toe piece.  But, the gingham wouldn't show on the top when I opened out the seam.  Then I used a seam ripper to remove the bias from both booties, and tried again.  I stitched the bias on top of the toe piece as seen in the picture.

As I finished the booties, I realized the red stitching was not ideal on the reverse side (guitar side).  In hindsight, I now realize that I should have sewn the bias on the top toe piece (the flannel one) BEFORE I stitched the toe pieces to the bootie sides.

I now realize that the gingham bias should have been stitched  to the toe piece 1/4 inch from the straight edge to allow enough fabric for the seam that connects the toe piece to the bootie sides.  My next pair will be better.  :-)
