Using Scraps of Fabric

Knit/minky booties that were decorated with leftover scraps of knit.
[I want to express my deepest appreciation to http://www.newconceptions.com for the wonderful tutorial and basic pattern for this bootie (click on "free patterns"). People who post things like this without an expectation of compensation make our world so much better. I'm a big believer in the "light one little candle" philosophy.)
I cut out as many hat and bootie sets as I could fit on my nursery print knit yardage (which resulted in 6 sets), but I found that there wasn't enough to make the tops for the last pair of booties... SO I looked through the scraps and found that I could cut "two small matching pieces" from the little scraps of leftover fabric. I then used a small zigzap stitch to attach them to the minky tops that I had cut out. In addition, I noted that two sole linings would fit on the little scrap of the white knit fabric that I had left, so I chose to use the knit as the bottom lining instead of the minky, so as to save the minky to use with another pair of booties.
The booties in the picture at the top were the result. Their soles are the cream minky, but the linings are cotton knit. I'm so happy with the way they turned out... and mostly it was a result of my trying to use "every scrap" of this nursery print knit fabric --- especially since it's difficult for me to find more of it.
Those booties will be put together with one of these six hats as I organize a set (hat/bootie/toy).
Next, I'll work on making a matching crinkle tactile toy of some kind to include in the set.
These hats were made using Butterick pattern 5583 and modifying it. I wanted "reversible" hats, so I cut the hat pattern through the center. I used the half pattern and added a 5/8" seam allowance (to the cut line) when I cut out the hat piece from the nursery print knit. I repeated the same thing when I cut the hat piece from the minky fabric. Then I stitched the two pieces of fabric together to make one complete piece. After that, I just followed the directions provided with the pattern. (The scraps from these hats were used to decorate the booties above.)
PS. I make the hats with a 12" circumference and the booties 3 3/4" long, because Newborn head sizes range from 12-14" and Newborn bootie size is 3 3/4". I am currently focusing on making Newborn items that can be distributed to needy parents served by a charitable organization.

Update: This is a similar set that I completed yesterday. Notice the top of the booties are solid cream colored minky without the decorative knit panel . The rest is the same as the above pair of booties.
The tactile toy has terry cloth on the reverse side to provide texture, and I particularly loved the little ribbons with tiny zoo characters that somewhat match the print.
